Rainy Morning Causes Hazards Across Las Vegas Roadways

Several vehicle crashes and traffic incidents occurred across the Las Vegas valley early Sunday morning as wet roads created dangerous driving hazards. The rainfall led to numerous accidents, stalled vehicles in flood waters, and the temporary closure of roads in multiple locations.

Semi Truck Collision on Interstate 15

At around 2 a.m., a semi truck collision was reported on Interstate 15 near the Lamb Boulevard exit. The crash involved two large delivery vehicles, one operated by FedEx and the other by Amazon. Both trucks were damaged in the incident, highlighting the increased risks of driving in wet conditions.

Multi-Car Crash at Rancho and Rainbow

Just before 3 a.m., another incident took place at Rancho Drive and Rainbow Boulevard where three cars collided. A damaged vehicle required towing from the scene as emergency responders attended to those involved. The incident added to the mounting number of traffic disruptions attributed to the wet weather.

Road Closures and Ongoing Police Response

By 5:30 a.m., Las Vegas Metro Area Police Department officers responded to almost two dozen traffic incidents. One significant closure occurred at the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Desert Inn Road as police managed a collision involving an SUV and a sedan. Additionally, Nevada State Police temporarily shut down the on-ramp to the northbound 215 Beltway at Charleston Boulevard due to flooding and stalled vehicles.

Flood Waters Strand Vehicles

Flood waters also stranded several vehicles. Three cars were reported stalled near Flamingo Road at Koval Lane and Winnick Avenue, in front of the Meridian apartments. The hazardous flood waters posed a risk not just to drivers, but also to bystanders and emergency responders.

Driver Rescued After Encountering Rushing Water

One driver recounted her frightening experience early Sunday. While heading to work along Koval Lane at around 5:50 a.m., her black Honda Civic was overwhelmed by rushing water, which pushed her car toward a wash. She managed to exit through the driver’s side window and waited on the roof of her car until emergency responders arrived and completed her rescue.

Tourists Take Interest in Flaming Wash

Nearby, the Flaming Wash behind the LINQ Hotel attracted spectators and tourists. Many recorded videos and snapped photos of the flowing water as the wash funneled rainwater safely away from the streets—a reminder of the system's function during rainfall flooding. Tourist Lauren Oram, visiting from Virginia for a conference, commented, “We didn’t bring a raincoat or an umbrella, or shoes that are good for water,” sharing her experience with coworkers.

Importance of Caution During Rainfall Flooding

The morning's incidents underscore the need for caution when driving in wet or flooded conditions. Emergency response crews worked throughout the early hours to manage vehicle crashes, rescue stranded drivers, and close roads where necessary. The events also highlight the function of the Flaming Wash and similar infrastructure in responding to significant rainfall in the Las Vegas valley, but authorities urge all drivers to remain vigilant in the face of hazardous conditions.
