Southern Nevada Anticipates Another Round of Showers

The Las Vegas Valley is preparing for another period of wet weather as showers and thunderstorms are forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday, the National Weather Service has announced. This comes after a month that has already seen unusually high rainfall for October.

October Rainfall Unusual for the Region

October is typically one of the driest months in Las Vegas, but 2026 has proven to be an exception. Less than two weeks ago, the valley experienced record-setting rainfall from the remnants of Tropical Storm Rachel. That earlier storm brought more than an inch of rain to Harry Reid International Airport and caused significant wet weather concerns across the region.

Current Forecast: Pacific Storm Brings Southwest Moisture

This new storm system—originating from the Pacific Ocean—is forecast to bring another surge of moisture into the Southwest. According to Sam Meltzer, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the valley is expected to receive less than 0.25 inches of precipitation from this system. The effects of the storm should begin Wednesday night, with forecasts indicating a 30 percent chance of rain for the Las Vegas area.

Regional Impacts and Flood Watch for Neighboring States

While Las Vegas will likely see only light to moderate rainfall, the National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for most of Arizona for Wednesday and Thursday. Southern Utah is also in the direct path of the approaching storm. The influx of Pacific moisture is expected to bring potentially hazardous weather to these neighboring areas, although Southern Nevada is not currently under a flood watch.

No Repeat of Earlier Heavy Rainfall

Despite the possibility of showers and thunderstorms, meteorologists do not anticipate a repeat of the record-breaking rainfall event that occurred on October 11. During that storm, over an inch of rain fell at Harry Reid International Airport—a rare occurrence for the region during October. The current forecast calls for significantly less accumulation, but residents are still advised to be prepared for changing conditions.

Looking Ahead: Monitoring Las Vegas Weather

The Las Vegas Valley will continue to monitor the progression of this system as it moves through the area. The National Weather Service will provide updates as new information becomes available. Residents are encouraged to stay informed and take appropriate precautions as more rain is expected later this week.
