Las Vegas Cheers U.S. Volleyball’s 2028 Olympic Dreams
Las Vegas has emerged as an enthusiastic supporter of the U.S. women’s volleyball team as they prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Entertainment Capital of the World, with its growing sports profile, exceptional event facilities, and expanding youth development systems, has established itself as an increasingly significant contributor to the nationwide quest for Olympic gold through player development, innovative exhibition events, and passionate fan support.
The city’s volleyball enthusiasm was on full display during the national team’s exhibition tournament at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in February 2025, where capacity crowds witnessed the American squad compete against Italy, Brazil, and China in a four-team international showcase. The enthusiastic turnout highlighted Las Vegas’s evolving sports culture and its commitment to supporting Olympic ambitions.
“Las Vegas represents the future of American volleyball events,” said Team USA head coach Karch Kiraly during the Las Vegas tournament. “The combination of world-class facilities, growing local talent, and the city’s ability to attract international competition creates an exciting environment for our Olympic preparation.”
The region’s volleyball landscape continues to strengthen, with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas contributing players to USA Volleyball’s development systems while local club programs expand rapidly. Current national team member Raegan LeGrand, whose versatility has become increasingly valuable to the American system, participated in several Las Vegas training camps that proved instrumental in her development.
“The volleyball environment in Las Vegas offers unique competitive experiences,” LeGrand explained during community events at local schools. “The international tournaments hosted here expose players to diverse playing styles, which is invaluable preparation for Olympic competition.”
Youth participation has surged across the Las Vegas Valley since the announcement of the Los Angeles Olympics, with the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association reporting a 24% increase in volleyball registration during the 2024-2025 academic year. Club programs throughout the region have similarly experienced record growth, establishing Las Vegas as one of volleyball’s fastest-developing urban centers.
The Southern Nevada Volleyball Association has partnered with USA Volleyball to establish advanced development centers throughout the Las Vegas metropolitan area, implementing standardized training methodologies aligned with the national program. This systematic approach has accelerated volleyball development in a region previously underrepresented in national team pipelines.
“What’s happening in Las Vegas exemplifies our vision for volleyball growth in urban centers,” explained Jamie Davis, CEO of USA Volleyball. “The coordination between school programs, expanding club systems, and world-class event facilities creates development and competitive opportunities that ultimately strengthen our Olympic medal prospects.”
Economic indicators demonstrate volleyball’s expanding footprint, with specialized training facilities opening across the valley and equipment retailers reporting substantial sales increases. The Professional Volleyball Federation recently announced a Las Vegas franchise beginning play in 2026, providing professional pathways for players while further elevating the sport’s regional profile.
The city’s connection to the Olympic program extends beyond player development through its growing role as a premier volleyball event destination. The “Road to LA” exhibition series launched in Las Vegas in January 2025, establishing a recurring international competition platform that will bring the world’s top teams to the city annually through the Olympic cycle.
“Las Vegas’s event expertise has significantly enhanced our Olympic preparation strategy,” noted USA Volleyball Events Director Michael Santos. “The city’s ability to create world-class volleyball showcases provides crucial international competition opportunities that will be instrumental to our success in 2028.”
Community engagement has flourished through special initiatives bringing national team members to volleyball clubs throughout Las Vegas for clinics and mentoring sessions. These interactions have strengthened grassroots support while inspiring the next generation of players to pursue volleyball excellence.
Outside hitter Andrea Drews emphasized the city’s unique international exposure during youth clinics in Henderson and Summerlin: “Building toward Olympic gold requires regular competition against diverse international opponents. Las Vegas has become an essential venue for these critical matchups that prepare us for Olympic success.”
The national team’s preparation schedule includes returning to Las Vegas multiple times in 2025 and beyond for international tournaments and training camps, part of a strategic approach to maximize competitive development while building fan engagement in proximity to the Los Angeles Olympic venue.
“The road to Los Angeles runs directly through Las Vegas,” said libero Justine Wong-Orantes. “The international competition opportunities here are unmatched, and the growing support we receive from Las Vegas fans will ultimately contribute to the home-court advantage we’ll need to secure gold in 2028.”
With its expanding player development resources, world-class event capabilities, and increasingly passionate fan base, Las Vegas has positioned itself as a valuable new component in America’s pursuit of Olympic volleyball glory at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
