Volunteers Unite to Combat Food Insecurity
On Saturday, more than 100 employee volunteers from Southwest Gas, along with their families, joined the Vegas Golden Knights at Three Square Food Bank to address food insecurity issues in the community. The collaboration brought together staff, mascots, and supporters, demonstrating a strong community commitment to hunger relief.
Efforts at Three Square Food Bank
The event took place at Three Square Food Bank, a prominent organization dedicated to fighting hunger in Southern Nevada. Volunteers packed 1,475 bags of food, with a total weight of 16,400 pounds. Activities included packing produce and grocery items, sorting donated food, organizing backpack meals, and supporting projects designed to help local families facing food insecurity.
Engagement from Community Icons
Special appearances were made by Chance, the Vegas Golden Knights mascot, and members of the Vegas Vivas, adding to the energy of the event. The presence of the hockey team underscored the importance of community partnership in addressing hunger and supporting local families in need.
The BLUE Program and Continued Support
This volunteer event was part of Southwest Gas’ BLUE (Building Loves Up Everywhere) program, which encourages employees to support local nonprofits and uplift the communities they serve. Since 2016, the Southwest Gas Foundation has contributed over $90,000 to Three Square Food Bank, and Southwest Gas employees have donated more than $686,000 through the company’s workplace giving program, FUEL for LIFE.
A Strong and Ongoing Partnership
The initiative is also part of the ongoing partnership between Southwest Gas and the Vegas Golden Knights, reflecting both organizations' commitment to making a positive impact. As the official natural gas partner of the hockey team, Southwest Gas continues to support local initiatives focused on hunger relief and community service.
